Sikkim & Darjeeling

Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is situated in the midst of the eastern Himalayas. An important centre of Buddhism, this charming hill station is surrounded by beautiful scenery at every step, especially stunning views of the snow-capped Mount Kanchenjunga. It is also a good base to visit Sikkim’s Buddhist monasteries, high-altitude lakes and passes. There are myriad interesting places to visit in Gangtok.

Where else would you go for a breathtaking view of the mighty Kanchenjunga range, or to watch a toy train with smiling passengers as it chugs past right next to you on the road? Darjeeling, also known as the Queen of the Hills, has a quaint charm about it. Buildings that boast of colonial decor, heritage eateries, sprawling tea gardens and the highest railway station in the country are all part of its appeal—and filmmakers have been capturing the same on screen for several years.

Tour highlights & Bonus Features (included in cost)

Darjeeling Toy Train

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was the first, and is still the most outstanding, example of a hill passenger railway. Opened in 1881, this quaint engine train winds through the city and the tea gardens of Darjeeling and the hilly landscapes for over an hour, giving  the passengers a beautiful tour of Darjeeling.  Large bay windows and in some carriages the 360 degree open views make for a pleasant fun journey.

White water rafting

If you are visiting Darjeeling or Sikkim, one of the popular adventure activities that you can undertake along with your family members is white water river rafting. River Teesta and Rangeet gush down the Himalayan mountains and create foaming white water and stretches with varying rapids that are excellent for rafting for both beginners and seasoned rafters.

Here you can indulge in adrenaline pumping river rafting activity.  Don’t worry if you are not up for a roller-coaster ride, you can always still opt for a smooth cruise.

Ropeway rides

There are two very beautiful Gangtok ropeway rides that can be undertaken while on this tour. One is in Gangtok itself and one is at Changu lake. The ropeway cable car gliding over the landscape is an ethereal experience — gives you a spellbinding 360deg view of the terrain below — the city, the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga and the rivers flowing below…

The ropeway on Changu lake climbs to an astounding height of 14000ft. It is fast becoming the most coveted attraction in Sikkim.

We’ve made sure both the ropeway rides are part of the tour itinerary as both cover different regions and are operating from different altitudes

Buddha Park

The Dalai Lama had been invited to Sikkim to consecrate the colossal 128 foot hammered copper statue of the Buddha, which he had earlier named Tathagata Tsal. His Holiness expressed his greetings and said: “I’ve come to consecrate this outstanding statue, which we did according to the rites of Vajrakilaya because this locality has historical connections with that meditational deity. The place itself is quiet, open and peaceful and the statue adds to the natural beauty of the landscape, which I hope will inspire an inner transformation within the pilgrims who come here.”
