TADOBA TIGER TOUR
Tadoba Andhari Reserve, nestled in the dry deciduous forests with dense woodlands, overlooking the Chimur Hills and rich in water resources with both the Andhari river that meanders through the forest and the Tadoba Lake which acts as a buffer between the park’s forest and the extensive farmland which extends up to Irai water reservoir, these lakes and rivers provide vital ingredients needed to sustain the park’s wildlife. Its pristine forests, captivating meadows and deep valleys, makes it an ideal environment to breed more numbers of tigers in Tadoba and their population is increasing. According to the 2010 National Census on Tigers, there are about 43 tigers in the reserve, which is one of the highest in India. Tourists throng the Tiger Reserve in Gypsies and canters to view the tiger from close quarters. Apart from the Bengal Tiger, one can view the Indian leopard, sloth bears, gaur, nilgai, dhole, small Indian civet, jungle cats, sambar, barking deer, chital, chausingha and the honey badgers. Reptiles here include endangered Indian python and common Indian monitor. Terrapins, Indian star tortoise, Indian cobra and Russel’s viper also live in Tadoba. However, boating in the Irai Lake is also possible for bird lovers and wildlife photographers as the lake contains a wide variety of water birds, and raptors. 195 species of birds have been recorded, including 3 endangered species. The grey-headed fish eagle, crested serpent eagle, and changeable hawk-eagle are some of the raptors seen in the park.
