Shivaji’s story as a warrior King is unmatched in the history of India. The battles he fought and the forts he conquered in his lifetime give us valuable inputs of his life. Shivaji’s historic trail starts from his capital, Raigad Fort where he was coroneted King of the Marathas. The fort is architecturally and historically rich and one can see many intact monuments in the fort. The trail then leads to Pratapgad, Mahabaleshwar, famous for his one to one fight with Afzal Khan of Bijapur where he outwits him and kills him leading to the battle of Pratapgad. The trail then leads to Panhalgad in Panhala where he plans the great escape to Vishalgad, leading to the famous Battle of Pawankhind. The trail finally ends at Sinhagad fort in Pune where his loyal general Tanaji Malusare captures the Kondana fort but dies in battle (later named Sinhagad fort in memory of Tanaji).
